A 24-year-old man has been apprehended in Thane district, Maharashtra, for the murder of a woman that occurred nearly ten months ago. The police announced the arrest on Sunday, revealing that the suspect had been on the run since the incident.
According to officials, Raju Mahendra Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on Friday in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, based on a tip-off. Initially, he had identified himself as Suraj, but a tattoo on his hand led to his identification.
Senior Inspector Vinayak Gaikwad reported that Singh allegedly killed a 23-year-old woman with a sharp weapon on October 28, 2024, in Bhivandi before fleeing the scene.
The police indicated that the victim and the suspect were acquaintances, both hailing from the same village in Uttar Pradesh. The woman had rejected his romantic advances, which reportedly angered him.
After the crime, the suspect changed his location multiple times and kept his mobile phone switched off. He was hiding in various places across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Recently, the police received information about Singh's presence in the Devasa Naka area of Indore, leading to his capture with the assistance of the Indore crime branch.
